Outdoors and Active, Inc. has been in existence since 1983, and during that time, we have gained the friendship of many, many members, but we have also lost some very special members who have passed on. This page is dedicated to our dearly remembered members who passed away during 2016.

Jim Albers came in to our club in 2010 and quickly became involved. He became a good friend to many of us. In 2011 he met Susan Smith and they entered into a relationship that became permanent. Jim was quite the adventurer. But one of his best qualities was his generosity and his ability to host wonderful O&A parties. He and Susan threw amazing parties, but the most memorable of all were the Halloween parties. People were always welcome in Jim and Susan's home. We miss him very much.

KentKent Foyer participated in O&A for more than 12 years. Kent was a huge promoter of Outdoors and Active. He was the guy with the big Rolodex and he often referred people he met to our club. Many of our members were participants in his dances and card games and people participated in both clubs. Kent was very helpful in the growth of Outdoors and Active. With his help, we grew from 150 members to over 800 members in just six years. Kent became a very dear friend to everyone who knew him.

LiamLiam Gribben was a long time member of O&A who, like many others, dropped out for a while, then rejoined in recent years. He especially liked O&A's New Smyrna Beach trip and was one of the first to set up his large beach tent for everyone to enjoy, and even graciously provided snacks for all. Liam was a very generous and good-hearted man who kept everyone laughing with his unique brand of humor. Those who attended O&A's dance parties could see that he was also a very adept dancer. He was a one-of-a-kind person who is greatly missed by all who knew him.

DarrylDarryl Ricket was an O&A member for over 10 years. He served on the board for a year, but found that his forte was in serving as a host of weekend adventures for many years. He and his lovely Rhonda together planned many weekend getaway trips for our members, and were constantly spending time on scouting trips to discover more adventures for O&A. Darryl said that the impromptu party on one of those trips to Casey Key was the “best party ever”, and many O&A members certainly agreed!

FranFran Shienvold was an active member of O&A for more than 15 years, and she served as a board member for most of that period. For many years, Fran was our Vice-President, and she devoted herself to the club by acting as our excellent newsletter editor. Fran loved Sanibel Island and loved to share it with us by hosting a November weekend there for many years. Fran’s enthusiasm for keeping O&A strong and serving our members was infectious. We benefited so much from her knowledge of O&A history and policies, and she is sorely missed.

Rest in peace, dear friends.
